music: Last Exile

I need a new icon! an Emo Fiddler icon! This shall have to be constructed when I have a free minute, as I have a feeling I'm going to be posting a lot of stupid emo cheese. The phrase "playing the emo fiddle" just strikes such a lovely chord within me.

I had a thought! What if every anime were as good as Last Exile? and what if Kristin watched more good anime? Would I have more faith in her taste, and not see a preview for a new emo-wanker looking series about a bunch of girly pretty-men and go "Kristin's going to watch this for sure"? (Kristin! If you read this, I'm not jesting, actually. With a few notable exceptions your taste in anime is horrible and this is coming from someone who watched Dead or Alive [and not the miike film, either] and enjoyed it. But I forgive you.)

The world will never know!

Also, girls at Willamette suck. I'm just sayin'.

There is something incredibly infuriating about my mom asking me if I've started dating yet two goddamn weeks after Kristin broke up with me.

I understand the impulse well enough, but this isn't going to make you any friends. Criticizing someone for their tastes (a slight but important distinction from cricizing someone for the tastes they force on others--that variety's okay) is pretty obnoxious; people like what they like, and that's their business, and you are no better of a person for liking other things.

I know this is a venting post and I'm far from the desired readership, but writing things publicly means that everyone who reads this is going to think it's addressed to them personally . . . .

If someone's silly enough to think something is directed at them when it is clearly noted that it's directed at one person specifically, that's their own choice, I suppose. I could probably make some observations about how that person is just looking,/i> for a fight, but...

I'm not saying my taste is any better (well, okay, I am), and if the person whom this was directed at (hi Kristin!) is offended, well, she has my cell phone number. But I've been saying things like this to her face for two years now, so I'd imagine she either doesn't mind, or has been fuming secretly over each time I've said stuff like this and I'm in for an earful to end all earfuls. (I'm obnoxious!)

but I deserve more than a few of those anyways.

and re: the lack of friend-makeage, I'm actually kind of in the mood to not make friends at the moment, so.

Oh, no, I didn't assume you were writing about me--I just meant that in general livejournal posts, thanks to the friendslist, come packaged with the illusion that my the reader's opinion is being solicited. You posting this publically generates that illusion, even though I know in my head you're not actually looking for my or anyone else's commentary--but that doesn't stop me taking advantage of the opportunity and soapboxing. (This sounds so much cattier (and more pretentious!) than I actually feel, uh. I am picking a fight, but I don't actually dislike you? I'm disagreeing with you on principle.)

. . . I can't think of a good way to transition to this, but I did mean to post out of principle and not necessarily out of an attempt to preserve Kristin's feelings--because she is your friend and you guys can work that out on your own. I just feel that attitude is flawed, so there's incentive to debate.
